If your child has dyslexia or is slow at learning, or has signs of aspergers or mild autism, they will no longer receive the support from specialised advisory teachers such as myself. It is down to the school to recognise the need and apply strategies to adapt the curriculum from in house expertise (if it is there!).There is no longer access to specialist teachers such as myself to ensure the child's needsd are met. In 2012, statement of special educational needs will be phased out and instead only the most severe and complex children will access a budget that will be a "ring fenced" to meet a child's needs. So where does that leave the child and a worried parent? Our service can provide accurate testing to diagnose difficulties your child may be having as regards progress at school. We can then put in strategies in a weekly teaching programme to meet YOUR child's specific needs. In addition, if required, we can also act as a qualified and experienced advocacy service to meet with the school to ensure they are supporting your child appropriately and in consultation with you - the parents. |
